Past Festivals

The 2024 Inaugural Earth Connection Film Festival was funded by the National Science Foundation and was held in-person at the historic Buskirk-Chumley Theater in Bloomington, Indiana, on July 20th. It was also available internationally and screened online from July 20 – 27.

$14,000 was awarded to an international body of filmmakers. The festival was featured in Nature as an example of how to connect scholarship with the public, as well as in a leading communication research journal.

The festival was free and open to the public.

The success of the 2024 festival led to the establishment of a biennial festival (every 2nd year). The 2026 festival will be held on Earth Day, April 22, 2026, at the premiere Indiana University Cinema in Bloomington, Indiana.
