EARTH CONNECTION FILM FESTIVAL

Co-director

Jessica Eise is a researcher on climate change, food security, agriculture and human behavior. She seeks to understand how individuals, society and Earth interrelate and how we can leverage these connections to overcome difficult challenges such as climate change and hunger. She is passionate about improving human life for everyone through innovation and our better natures. Dr. Eise is an assistant professor of social and environmental challenges with Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington Department of Environmental and Occupational Health.

Sarah Lasley is also an award-winning filmmaker from Louisville, Kentucky and Associate Professor at Cal Poly Humboldt in the Art + Film department. Her films critique our current socio-political moment with absurdist humor and have screened internationally at festivals such as Slamdance, Ann Arbor, Big Sky, Athens International Film and Video Festival, 25 FPS Festival, and Les Instants Video. She has an MFA from Yale School of Art and was a resident at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.

Festival Coordinator

Amanda Camarillo is an Adjunct Research Associate in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at Indiana University–Bloomington, where she works on an NSF-funded project led by Dr. Jessica Eise examining long-term climate action and the role of moral, spiritual, and ethical values in science communication. She is also a doctoral student in anthropology at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where her research explores how communities imagine and build more just futures through education and activism.

Curriculum and Pedagogy

Kelly Eskew is an attorney and Clinical Professor of Business Law & Ethics at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and Director of Education for the Kelley Institute for Environmental and Social Sustainability. She has been recognized for her innovative courses in climate law, sustainability law, poverty alleviation, and business and human rights, and their experiential learning projects. Professor Eskew was named one of the 2023 50 Best Undergraduate Business Professors by Poets & Quants. She also received the Academy of Legal Studies in Business’s Bonsignore Memorial Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Law Teaching for her commitment to teaching that reflects humanitarian concerns, as well as numerous awards from the university, campus, and school, and student organizations.

Festival Administrator

Nivedita Ravi is a sophomore at Indiana University-Bloomington studying Finance and International Business with a minor in Law and Public Policy. She has also been heavily involved in nonprofit organizations centering around various social causes like education, mental health, and accessibility in business, and aims to use her past involvements to explore the global dynamics that drive corporate decisions.

Festival Judge

Masha Vlasova is an award-winning experimental and non-fiction filmmaker. She has exhibited and screened her films at Ann Arbor Film Festival, Chicago Underground Film Festival, Ottawa International Animation Festival, Smack Mellon, Anthology Archives, Abrons Arts Center, the Border Project Gallery in New York City, Vox Populi in Philadelphia, and Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University, among others. Her experimental animation “Un-Tidal” was awarded “Original Concept” and “Best Celluloid Film” at Experimental Film Festival of East Anglia, UK. Her film “Midsummer” received an Honorable Mention at the Thomas Edison Film Festival. Her documentary short “Her Type” was honored with the Audience Choice Award at Burnt Video Art and Experimental Film Festival. Vlasova attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2024), she holds an MFA from Yale School of Art (2016) and a BFA from Cooper Union (2012). She’s a Fulbright Fellow and a MacDowell Fellow.

Festival Judge

Morgan King facilitates climate action and resiliency planning and furthers the infusion of sustainability into campus operations, academics and the natural/built environment. He chairs advisory committees on sustainability and transportation, advises student programs and mentors student sustainability research. He is a co-founder of Full Cycle Compost, a bicycle powered community compost service, and is a Climate Action Program Coordinator with Surfrider Humboldt. Morgan holds a Master’s degree in Environment and Community from Cal Poly Humboldt, a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of California Santa Cruz, and was a Fisheries Extension Volunteer in Peace Corps Nepal.
